Designed to Serve: Unpacking San Francisco’s Boards and Commissions

There has been a lot of talk recently about San Francisco’s commission system. SPUR's recent report Designed to Serve finds that the purpose, roles, and responsibilities of the City and Counties' 126 boards and commissions are often unclear. The report recommends an evaluation of them to clarify their different purposes and reduce the overall number of them. With two separate ballot measures in front of voters that address this, many people are seeking to understand how these bodies support the City and County government and how the proposed measures will impact them. Join us for a conversation that dives into the different roles that commissions play, what they bring to the City and County government when working well, and how they could be better structured and resourced to deliver on their missions.
